Gender Equity in Sport

Female Inclusion in Sport Grants Program (FISG)

DPV Health and the City of Whittlesea offer the Female Inclusion in Sports Grant Program (FISG).

Funded by City of Whittlesea Council and DPV Health, FISG provides funding of up to $3,000 (ex GST) to City of Whittlesea based sporting clubs. Funding is provided for clubs to run projects aimed at increasing female inclusion in all aspects of sporting clubs (e.g., as players, coaches, umpires and in leadership roles).

Sport offers many health and well-being benefits, as well as increasing leadership opportunities, self-esteem, interpersonal networks, social inclusion, and community connections. Despite these benefits, more than two thirds of Australian women aren’t getting enough exercise to benefit their health.

Addressing gender inequity is crucial to achieving better health and social well-being; improved organisational performance; and the prevention of violence against women.

The FISG Program aims to assist clubs to develop projects that promote and encourage equal inclusion of females in sports across the municipality.

GE3 Program

GE3 is a significant gender equity initiative project between City of Whittlesea, DPV Health and Whittlesea City Basketball Association (WCBA) to purposefully provide healthy, safe, and equitable environments that create positive outcomes for all.

Gender equity means fairness of treatment of all genders, according to their respective needs. This may include equal treatment or treatment that is different, but which is considered equivalent in terms of rights, benefits, obligations, and opportunities.

Taking a whole-of-sport-approach the project reaches all impact points across the WCBA from the board to championship teams, junior domestic club committees and players and our referees’ program. This project has a specific focus on men and boys and addressing harmful gender stereotypes.

GE3 builds the knowledge of decision makers on gender equity in sport and demonstrates to club leaders how they can use their influence to create positive impacts in sport for everyone, where gender does not limit their opportunities, potential or access within basketball.

GE3 looks at gendered stereotypes and how they impact all genders in sport. Opportunities to promote gender equity will be identified by completing a reflective gender equity audit and creating an action plan to strategically direct future changes.
