People in Hume will be able to access more support for the mental health impacts of COVID-19, with the new HeadtoHelp mental health hub opening up at DPV Health’s Medical and Dental Centre in Coleraine St. Broadmeadows.

DPV Health has partnered with the North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network (NWMPHN) to establish this important service. The Broadmeadows hub is one of 15 established across the state by Victoria’s Primary Health Networks. NWMPHN CEO Christopher Carter said “the hubs will be critical to meet burgeoning demand for mental health support”.

Many people in North, West and Central Melbourne may have never experienced mental ill-health before and are facing new challenges due to COVID-19,” Adjunct Associate Professor Carter said. “HeadtoHelp will provide a welcoming place for everyone who needs mental health and wellbeing support, whether their mental health issues are pre-existing or have emerged during the pandemic.”

People can access HeadtoHelp by calling the advice and referral line on 1800 595 212. Trained mental health professionals will then assess their needs and connect them with the most appropriate local services, including the new mental health hubs as well as existing services.

The 1800 number and the mental health hubs are available to anyone in the community with or without a GP mental health treatment plan.

Don Tidbury CEO DPV Health said “DPV Health is thrilled to partner with the NWMPHN to deliver this important public health initiative. Mental Health represents a major challenge within the Hume region and this welcome investment will ensure everyone in our community can better access mental health services when they need them”

To contact HeadtoHelp, call 1800 595 212 between 8.30am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday or visit www.headtohelp.org.au.

The Broadmeadows hub is open as of Monday 14 September.
