Single Assessment System

Commencing in December 2024

Single Assessment System

The North West Melbourne Aged Care Assessment Alliance has been appointed by the Federal Government to provide a Single Assessment System (SAS) for older consumers to support the My Aged Care system.

The SAS is an end-to-end system to support older consumers to access aged care services in a way in which consumers have real control and choice in the services they receive.

The six agency Alliance, led by DPV Health, is a combination of four community health organisations and two local councils who are tasked to implement the new service.

  • DPV Health (Lead Agency)
  • IPC Health
  • Merri Health
  • Your Community Health
  • City of Darebin
  • Merri-bek City Council

The Department of Health and Aged Care has engaged assessment organisations within designated geographical services areas to provide Single Assessment Services (SAS).

The North West Melbourne Aged Care Assessment Alliance (NWMACAA) is contracted to service 30% of total Aged Care Assessments and Residential Aged Care Assessments in the Vic 1 Service Area.  The remaining 70% is contracted to other local external aged care agencies.

As the ‘human face’ of the My Aged Care system, the alliance will manage both clinical and non-clinical assessors to undertake Complex and Simple Assessments

Some of the SAS benefits for consumers will include:

  • Assessments based on their needs and level of complexity
  • Consistent and accurate assessments through new assessment tools
  • Quicker access to urgent services
  • Simplified assessment process with assessment organisations having capability to conduct all types of Aged Care Assessments
  • Independence of assessments by separating assessment services from service providers
  • Wellness and reablement focus allowing people to regain their confidence, ability and the necessary skills to live as independently as possible.

The implementation of the SAS follows reforms into Aged Care Assessment arising from recommendations from the Royal Commission in Aged Care Quality and Safety in 2021.
