Pathways to Employment

DPV Health is committed to supporting the development of students in community health practice. We offer tertiary student placements because we value the contribution students make to our organisation, our clients and our community.

We acknowledge that the pathway you choose through your coursework develops the theory base for your career. To complement your studies, we offer quality clinical and practical placements through high quality, structured mentorship with a dedicated and motivated team, where you will be part of an organisation that values excellence, integrity and persistence.  You can put your theory into practice and do meaningful work to support and enhance the health and wellbeing of our community.

DPV Health can only coordinate student placements through our partnerships with tertiary education providers. The best way to arrange a student placement is to talk to the student coordinator at your university or TAFE. They can get in touch with us directly to negotiate placement arrangements.

We also offer employment pathways through our annual graduate programs where we aim to attract, recruit, develop and retain high performers.

Graduates are selected against the following criteria:

  • Academic performance
  • Work experience and extra-curricular activities
  • Values and community interest
  • Oral and written skills
  • Initiative and capacity to innovate
  • Leadership ability
  • Collaboration
  • Analytical and conceptual skills

More than 6 million Australians make a difference by volunteering each year, doing a wide range of tasks for community-focussed organisations. People volunteer for many reasons and in many different ways. Some use volunteering as a way to gain new skills or add to their CV. Others use it as a way to meet new people, make new friends or try something new. Making a difference to the community and having a sense of purpose are also popular reasons for volunteering. Whatever your own personal reason is for volunteering, rest assured it is a two-way exchange – you give but you also gain.

There are two main ways that people choose a volunteer role. One is to choose an organisation or cause that is close to your own heart and you want to help. The second is to choose a volunteer role based on the skills you want to use or gain. Think about your own motivations for volunteering, how much time you can commit and what you hope to get out of it. This will help you to choose a role that is a good match for you.

Would you like to make a difference in the lives of people in your own community and also hold a prominent volunteer role? DPV Health has a large range of volunteer roles including one off, short term and long-term opportunities, making it easy for you to find a volunteer role that suits your interests, motivation, availability and location.

At DPV Health we highly value our volunteers for their generous time, commitment and dedication to working with us. Our volunteers come from all walks of life, backgrounds, experiences and age groups and support our service delivery.  We also use volunteering as a pathway to employment…there have been some great successes with volunteers being appointed to employment roles within our Intake, Community Engagement and ICT teams.

Peer support and group programs provide a platform where individuals can come together, share stories, and learn coping strategies. These connections serve as a reminder about togetherness, even in challenging times, and can pave the way for personal growth and a stronger sense of community.

The integrated approach allows for the delivery of wrap-around supports at different levels of intensity and frequency that align to individual needs.

Group-based, client-led peer activities aim to assist in increasing connection with community, increase social support, reduce social isolation and support skill development and achievement of individual goals through group processes.

If you have a willingness to share your lived experience to facilitate a focus on recovery, engagement and social connection – connect with us now to see what opportunities we can offer.

Bi-cultural workers can be instrumental in facilitating effective community engagement, co-design and community-led practice.

Our bi-cultural workers use their cultural knowledge, language skills, lived experience and community connections to work with people who they share a lived experience with and with mainstream organisations. Bi-cultural workers elevate community voices, advocate for their needs, co-design and deliver programs, share information and facilitate cultural safety.

Bi-cultural workers can:

  • identify and advocate for community needs
  • lead community engagement and co-design
  • deliver community-led projects
  • review materials, resources and services to make sure they are accessible and culturally safe
  • support evaluation, planning and service design
  • share information in relevant language and culturally appropriate ways
  • educate community members about services and support with access.

If this is an opportunity you wish to explore at DPV Health, connect with us now to see how we can work together to make a lasting impact.

Do you want to help improve the health care system? With DPV Health’s Community Engagement Program, you can be a part of the future of our services. We invite members from the community to engage with us in developing welcoming health services and providing timely access to service for all.
