Ingrown Toenail Treatment

An ingrown toenail is a common, painful condition. It occurs when the side of your toenail grows into the skin around the nail. New skin may then grow over the toenail edge.

The main symptom is a pain in the toe, especially when it is touched. The ingrown nail usually occurs on the big toe.

The pain may make it difficult to walk or wear shoes. There may also be swelling, redness, and pus.

Ingrown toenails may develop gradually, or suddenly due to an injury. They can be caused by excessively tight shoes or socks.

Various simple procedures can treat an ingrown toenail and prevent it from coming back.

Call 1300 234 263 (select option 1) to book a consultation.

Did you know?

Ingrown toenails left untreated usually cause a lot of pain, can get infected and, in the worst situations, can lead to bone infections and loss of the toe. The condition can be more serious if you have diabetes, nerve damage, or poor blood circulation.

Iron Infusion

Do you experience the following:

• Extreme fatigue
• Weakness
• Pale skin
• Chest pain, fast heartbeat or shortness of breath
• Headache, dizziness or light-headedness

If you answered yes, this may be a sign of iron deficiency.

Iron infusion treats iron deficiency anaemia, a common condition in which the body does not contain enough iron. Iron is a mineral that forms part of the red blood cells that carry oxygen around the body. An iron infusion is a procedure in which iron is delivered to your body through a catheter (tube) in a vein.

You may need an iron infusion if you have iron deficiency anaemia and iron tablets are not increasing your iron levels, or you need to increase your iron levels quickly for medical reasons. Women and people with certain medical conditions are more at risk of iron deficiency.

Your doctor will determine whether iron infusion is an appropriate treatment for you.

Call 1300 234 263 (select option 1) to book a consultation.

Did you know?

Anaemia is a condition in which the number of red blood cells or the concentration of hemoglobin in the red blood cells is lower than normal. Anemia can be temporary or long term, and it can range from mild to severe. Patients with anemia can appear pale, may feel cold, tired, fatigue easily, may have weakness, lightheaded or dizziness.

Mirena / IUD insertion & Implanon

Mirena / IUD

A hormonal IUD is a contraceptive device – a method of preventing pregnancy. It is called an intrauterine device because it is inserted into the uterus (womb).

The hormonal IUD slowly releases a hormone called progestogen, which assists in reducing the chance of pregnancy. A hormonal IUD is more than 99.5% effective at preventing pregnancy while inserted, for up to five years. After five years, the IUD must be replaced if you would like contraception to continue.

A trained doctor or nurse will insert the IUD into your uterus. The procedure will be cheaper if you have a Medicare card.

When the IUD is removed, your fertility will return to normal. A trained doctor or nurse needs to remove the IUD.

Implanon

Implanon is more than 99% effective at preventing pregnancy while inserted, for up to three years. After three years, the implant must be replaced for contraception to continue.

If you wish to become pregnant, a doctor or nurse can remove the Implanon implant. Your fertility will then quickly return.

Skin Checks & Excisions of Skin Lesions

The purpose of a skin check is to detect skin cancers in an early stage, when they can be successfully treated.

If the doctor notes that a lesion is suspicious, they may recommend that it be biopsied (tested) or removed. The biopsy sample or the entire lesion will be sent to a laboratory for pathology analysis. This will determine if the lesion is malignant (cancerous) and if any further treatment is required.

If left untreated, skin cancers can cause disfigurement or even death. However, when detected early, most skin cancers can be treated successfully.

Who is it suitable for?

Depending on your skin type and other factors, your doctor may recommend a yearly, or more frequent, skin check.

It is important to regularly check your own skin. Book an appointment as soon as possible if you or a family member notice:

  • a new mole or skin change
  • a mole or freckle that changes shape, colour, or size
  • a mole or freckle that is asymmetrical, has irregular (rough) edges, or contains many colours
  • a mole, freckle, spot, or area of skin that continually bleeds or ulcerates
  • any other skin changes that you are worried about.

Skin cancer can affect anyone, with any skin colour. Most skin cancers can be successfully treated if detected early.
