Avoid the flu this flu season.

The flu vaccination is the best protection against influenza (flu) and possible complications.

Dr Hegarty, General Practitioner at DPV Health had this to say;

“After 2 quiet flu seasons, we are expecting to see lots of cases of influenza this year (there were more cases last month than for all of 2020 and 2021).

The best protection against getting the flu is the influenza vaccine, and all children, teenagers and adults at risk of serious illness from influenza should have an annual flu vaccine. DPV Health is well stocked with the flu vaccine, and it is available from our Broadmeadows and Mill Park medical centres and our Vaccination Hubs. I had my flu shot last week (as I do every year), and I strongly recommend it to everyone who is eligible.”

Flu vaccination is available free to those eligible under the Department of Health’s guidelines. This includes but is not limited to children from 6 months to less than 5 years of age, adults aged 65 years and over, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 6 months and over, pregnant women (during any stage of pregnancy), people aged 6 months and over with medical conditions which increase the risk of complications. Please visit DPV Health’s website for the latest eligibility criteria and appointment options.

For all others, private flu vaccination is available at a cost of $20. Both the Free and Private flu vaccinations are available at DPV Health Medical in Coleraine Street Broadmeadows and DPV Health medical in Civic Drive Mill Park sites. Dedicated vaccination clinic bookings are available online.

Flu vaccination can also be administered during other consultations with your preferred general practitioner. If you are coming into DPV Health to receive your COVID-19 booster, you can also receive your flu shot at the same time.
