Student Volunteers make time for community

Volunteers are essential in helping us deliver a variety of important free or low cost community programs. This week (12 – 18 August) is National Student Volunteer Week and we are pleased to have Oznur – a Masters of Occupational Therapy Practice student at Monash University – joining our My Time program.

The Week is a celebration of the substantial contribution of time, energy and skill made by student volunteers. Events will be hosted by universities and schools nation-wide including volunteer expos, workshops, panels, networking sessions, fundraising drives, thank you events and volunteer projects that help local not-for-profits.

Find out more about National Student Volunteer Week here www.nationalstudentvolunteerweek.org.au

MyTime is for parents and carers of children with a disability, developmental delay or chronic medical condition.  It’s a world away from appointments and therapy. While parents attend the group led by a trained facilitator, a play helper engages with the pre-school aged child. MyTime groups are not restricted to parents of children with particular additional needs – there are not specific MyTime groups for autism spectrum disorder or cerebral palsy, for example. All groups are open to all parents and carers. In some circumstances, you may be eligible to attend MyTime even if your child does not have a diagnosis.

MyTime Playgroup is free and held during school terms, in Thomastown, Broadmeadows & Roxburgh Park. For further information please contact the My Time Coordinator on 8301 6201 or 8301 6200

Homelessness Week 2019

Every year, the Homelessness service sector participate in Homelessness Week.  The aim of this event is to raise awareness about the issues faced by people experiencing homelessness and to advocate for sustainable change to end homelessness in Australia.
