Even adults are finding it hard to get their heads around the new “normal” – so how can you help your child understand how and why the coronavirus pandemic has changed our lives?

Below are selection of downloadable e-books exploring practical ways young children can avoid infection and transmission and have a better understanding of the current restrictions and condition we live in.

My Hero is You! How kids can fight COVID-19

“My Hero is You”, a story developed for and by children around the world, offers a way for children and parents to together think about the questions the pandemic raises. Designed to be read by a parent, caregiver or teacher alongside a child or a small group of children, the story was shaped by more than 1,700 children, parents, caregivers and teachers from around the world who took the time to share how they are coping with the impact of COVID-19.

The project was developed by the Inter-Agency Standing Committee Reference Group on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Emergency Settings, and supported by global, regional and country based experts, in addition to parents, caregivers, teachers and children in 104 countries.

Staying Home

Written by Sally Nicholls and Viviane Schwarz, Staying Home is based on a family of raccoons go through a day in lockdown – there’s no school, no nursery, no work outside the home, but lots of hand-washing, time together, a daily walk and lots of questions about what’s happening (and when it’s going to end). A wonderful and warm way to explain to the youngest members of your family how they’re doing their part to save lives just by staying home, Staying Home might become a new favourite read, even after this crisis is over.

Media Release – Managing COVID-19

DPV Health is firmly committed to protecting the safety of its clients and staff during the COVID-19 pandemic.

DPV Health is adhering to all federal and state government public health directives which guide our pandemic response and our daily infection prevention approach.

In addition to the standard practices of hand hygiene and physical distancing, all staff are provided with medical grade Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to provide the required infection transmission protection.

Staff and clients are now required to wear a mask when attending a DPV Health service. All persons entering DPV Health services must complete a COVID-19 risk screen to help ensure we identify potential risks and manage them appropriately.

DPV Health has a detailed risk management response for all suspected and confirmed COVID-19 cases which is based upon published health guidelines for health care and community services.

Over the previous month we have supported several employees who have received a positive COVID-19 diagnosis. In each instance our risk management response has been rapidly enacted including a full disinfectant clean of the DPV Health site attended by the staff member, comprehensive assessment and management of potential close contacts if the staff member attended a DPV Health site whilst deemed infectious, and close case management with the Department of Health and Human Services’ public health response unit.

The risks associated with the COVID-19 pandemic affect us all in different ways. Being on the front line, the mental health and wellbeing of our workforce is of upmost importance. DPV Health has a range of support measures in place to help staff maintain optimal mental health and wellbeing including online self-care and relaxation activities, regular communication and updates and access to an Employee Assistance Program.

The safety of our clients and staff is our highest priority. In these unprecedented times, we extend our warmest thanks to the community for its support to our team during this time.

COVID-19 Testing Blitz – MERNDA

DPV Health is called in to lead a COVID testing blitz in Mernda.

With only hours’ notice, DPV Health has mobilised it resources to coordinate and manage a 21 day COVID testing site in the leafy streets of Mernda. As COVID cases continue to climb, the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) in partnership with the City of Whittlesea, have called on DPV Health to lead the testing project.

The large, four car marquee, that has been installed in the carpark of Waterview Recreation Reserve in Mernda, will be the home to about 24 clinical and administration staff for the next 21 days. DPV Health will manage the large team of dedicated staff (including 6 Australian Defence Force nurses) and the logistics of ensuring they have enough equipment, resources and support, to swab thousands of community members in a safe and efficient operation. It is anticipated that the blitz will test over 10,000 people during the 21 day drive through event.

Starting Saturday 11 July, the site will be operational 7 days a week between 9.30am – 4.30pm.

All local residents and people living or working in the hotspots are welcome to get tested, with or without symptoms. We also offer testing for children under 5 years old.
